The Detroit Area Steelheaders is a non-profit fishing club celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2009. We are dedicated to the protection and promotion of trout, salmon and other fisheries in the Great Lakes region. Following are some more reasons why fishermen all over the state are joining the Detroit Area Steelheaders Inc.

  • The Detroit Area Steelheaders Inc. provides you with a means of being heard on issues affecting our fisheries.
  • You receive 12 monthly issues of the "FISHIN' TALES" newsletter, among the finest published anywhere.
  • Organized events all year long, including boat trolling, river fishing and ice fishing tournaments, held all over the state.
  • Social events such as our annual Wild Game Sportsman Dinner, as well as a special Christmas meeting with Salmon Claus for the kids.
  • Participation in public service events such as the DAS Special People Walleye outing, to support worthy causes.
  • Donations to Universities for research on fisheries and donations to various Sport fishing Organizations to support hatcheries, as well as contributing to legal fees to help protect our fishing rights all over the state. As of December 2009, more than $51,000 has been donated to a variety of conservation and fishery related causes. See a complete listing Here.
  • Our growing web site keeping you up to date on club activities, posting your photos and keeping you informed through our forums board and much more.
  • We have many exciting guest speakers lined up for upcoming meetings, including representatives of the Michigan DNR, State Fisheries Biologists and Charter Captains, all who would give us timely information and share their passions, as well as their special areas of expertise. Also, question and answer periods are held at are monthly meetings with the top skippers of our fishing tournaments, which are held all over the state. For up to date information on upcoming meetings and speakers, see our current edition of Fishin' Tales.
  • Share camaraderie with your fellow members at the AMERICAN POLISH CULTURAL CENTER in Troy on the Northwest corner of 15 Mile Road and Dequindre.) Our meetings are on the last Tuesday of the month (unless otherwise announced in the media and on the web site) and start at 7:30 in the evening.
